Working With Children

As our project involves working with and filming young children we did some research into the restrictions and limitations this could involve.

The BBC's child protection policy states (relevant to our project);

  • Children and young people should be treated with care, respect and dignity.
  • A risk assessment should be carried out when children undertake BBC activities.
  • BBC Productions and events involving visits to school should write to the school of event organiser concerned to advise them of all plans.
  • Use of all material must first be run by event organisers and parents, must have permission to share material online and on television.
As well as ourselves and the students, our risk assessment must take into account working with children:

  • the lack of awareness of risks and immaturity of children and young people, also if a child has a disability or special educational needs, these risks may be different.
  • the area in which the child is working and the type of equipment (if any) they are use and how this equipment should be correctly handled.
  • any tasks they will need to perform (e.g. walking from centre to school)
